# 🎮 20ESPORTS – Example Workflow: Valorant 1v1 Skirmish
*A sample tournament journey, from registration to the final standings.*
Welcome to **20ESPORTS**! This example shows how a Valorant 1v1 tournament with eight players could run in a **single-elimination format**, featuring **Best of 3 (BO3)** matches and an additional third-place match.
---
## 🏆 Tournament at a Glance
| Setting | Example |
|---|---|
| 🎮 Game | Valorant |
| ⚔️ Game mode | 1v1 Skirmish |
| 🏁 Tournament format | Single Elimination |
| 👥 Participants | 8 solo players |
| 🗺️ Match format | Best of 3 (BO3) |
| 🥉 Third-place match | Enabled |
| 🎯 Game environment | Custom Game / Lobby |
**Example participants:** STEVEE, Alex, Ben, Chris, David, Kevin, Mike, and Tom.
> **Valorant-specific note:** Matches are played through a lobby or Custom Game. Unlike games that use dedicated game servers, a separate match server is not automatically assigned. The match page is mainly used to coordinate the match, confirm readiness, manage map selection, record results, and display tournament progress.
> **About the third-place match:** The two semifinal losers play an additional match against each other. This adds a placement match to the standard single-elimination bracket.

## 1. 🛠️ Create the Tournament
The admin creates the tournament in the admin panel. Example settings:
- **Name:** 20ESPORTS Valorant 1v1 Skirmish #1
- **Game:** Valorant
- **Mode:** 1v1 Skirmish
- **Tournament format:** Single Elimination
- **Best of:** BO3
- **Participant limit:** 8
- **Player registration:** Enabled
- **Check-in:** Enabled
- **Third-place match:** Enabled
After saving, the tournament enters the registration phase.
## 2. 📝 Public Tournament Page and Registration
The public tournament page displays the key details, registration status, and a registration button.
Example:
```text
Valorant 1v1 Skirmish #1
Single Elimination · BO3
Participants: 0 / 8
[ REGISTER ]
```
All eight participants register individually. No teams are required for a 1v1 tournament. Depending on the registration setup, details such as a game account and Discord account may be collected, with age optional.
Once all eight slots are filled, or the admin closes registration manually, registration ends.
## 3. ✅ Check-in
Before the tournament starts, every player confirms their own participation. For a solo tournament, check-in must not depend exclusively on a team captain.
Example:
```text
STEVEE ✓ Checked in
Alex ✓ Checked in
Ben ✓ Checked in
Chris ✓ Checked in
David ✓ Checked in
Kevin ✓ Checked in
Mike ✓ Checked in
Tom ✓ Checked in
```
After the check-in phase ends, the admin starts the tournament.
## 4. 🧩 Bracket and Tournament Progression
With eight participants, the bracket looks like this:
```text
Quarterfinals
├── QF1: STEVEE vs. Alex
├── QF2: Ben vs. Chris
├── QF3: David vs. Kevin
└── QF4: Mike vs. Tom
Semifinals
├── SF1: Winner of QF1 vs. Winner of QF2
└── SF2: Winner of QF3 vs. Winner of QF4
Then
├── Final: Winner of SF1 vs. Winner of SF2
└── Third-place match: Loser of SF1 vs. Loser of SF2
```
Example quarterfinal results:
| Match | Result |
|---|---|
| STEVEE vs. Alex | 2–1 |
| Ben vs. Chris | 2–0 |
| Kevin vs. David | 2–1 |
| Tom vs. Mike | 2–0 |
The winners advance automatically to the next round. A match with unresolved participants (`TBD`) is not ready to be played.
## 5. 🎯 Match Page and Ready Status
Once both participants are known, they can open the match page, check their opponent and match status, and confirm that they are ready.
Example:
```text
Quarterfinal · BO3
STEVEE vs. Alex
STEVEE ✓ Ready
Alex ✓ Ready
Both players are ready.
The match can begin.
```
The match page can update status changes through AJAX/SSE. A match listed as `TBD vs. TBD` must not reserve a server resource. For Valorant, the players arrange their lobby or Custom Game.
## 6. 🗺️ Map Veto and Map Selection
A BO3 series can include up to three maps. The exact veto order is determined by the map and best-of logic configured in the system.
One example workflow:
1. Player A bans a map.
2. Player B bans a map.
3. Player A picks Map 1; Player B chooses the starting side.
4. Player B picks Map 2; Player A chooses the starting side.
5. Further bans and the remaining map determine Map 3.
6. The starting side for Map 3 is selected.
Example series:
| Map | Selection | Example result |
|---|---|---|
| Ascent | Pick: STEVEE | STEVEE 13–8 Alex |
| Haven | Pick: Alex | Alex 13–10 STEVEE |
| Bind | Decider | STEVEE 13–9 Alex |
STEVEE wins the series **2–1**.
## 7. 📊 Submit Results and Complete the Match
Results are recorded after each map. In a BO3, the series ends when one player has won two maps.
Example:
```text
Map 1: STEVEE wins
Map 2: Alex wins
Map 3: STEVEE wins
Final score: STEVEE 2–1 Alex
Winner: STEVEE
Status: Completed
```
Once the result is valid and the match is completed, the winner advances to the next round and the tournament overview is updated. The match history remains available for future reference.
## 8. 🥉 Third-Place Match and Final
After the semifinals, the participants for both placement matches are known.
**Third-place match**
- Ben vs. Kevin
- Example result: Ben wins 2–1
- 3rd place: Ben · 4th place: Kevin
**Final**
- STEVEE vs. Tom
- Example result: STEVEE wins 2–1
- 1st place: STEVEE · 2nd place: Tom
## 9. 🏆 Example Final Standings
```text
🏆 Valorant 1v1 Skirmish #1
🥇 1st – STEVEE
🥈 2nd – Tom
🥉 3rd – Ben
4th – Kevin
5th–8th – Alex / Chris / David / Mike
```
In this example, places 5–8 are determined by the four quarterfinal losers.
## 10. 📚 Match History and Rating
After the tournament ends, individual matches remain accessible in the match history, including the quarterfinals, semifinals, third-place match, and final with their respective results.
If rating is enabled for tournament matches, a valid completed match can also trigger an Elo/rating change.

## ⚙️ Key Considerations for the Event System
- Solo players are handled as individual tournament participants.
- Each player can check in individually for a 1v1 event.
- Matches with unresolved participants (`TBD`) are not ready to play.
- Once a match is completed, the winner advances automatically to the next round.
- The third-place match is created from the two semifinal losers.
- Map veto and map count depend on the selected best-of format, such as BO1, BO3, or BO5.
- A match must not be treated as finally completed while a dispute is still open.
- Tournament matches can affect player ratings if that feature is enabled.
